The Fort Wayne TinCaps weren’t able to muster much offense in a 7-1 loss in the rubber match with the Quad Cities River Bandits (Houston Astros) on Wednesday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park.
Quad Cities (18-13) scored once in each of the third and fourth innings before pushing across four runs in the sixth. It was 7-0 after eight innings until the TinCaps (14-19) got their only run in the top of the ninth.
Esteury Ruiz, a 19-year-old from the Dominican Republic, hit a 369-foot shot to left for his team-leading fifth home run of the season.
Jacob Meyers and Corey Julks both hit solo homers for Quad Cities.
Notes: Juan Fernandez hit a double in the eighth inning, extending his on-base streak to 20 consecutive games, which is the sixth longest streak this season.
Next game: The first of a three-game set at Kane County Cougars (Arizona Diamondbacks), 7:30 p.m. tonight. Probable starters — Ben Sheckler, FW (0-0) vs. Jeff Bain, KCC (1-1).
