Emma Laux had run her way into the Patriot record book while at Jay County.

Her name now stands among the best in Bulldog history.

Laux, a 2016 Jay County High School graduate, helped set a Butler University women’s track school record during the Big East Championships May 10 and 11 at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The sophomore joined Madeline Miller, Allie Vogeler and Carson Fields in the 4x400-meter relay and finished fifth with a time of 3 minutes, 56.36 seconds, for a new school record. The quartet shaved two tenths of a second off the record, which had stood since 2002.

Laux was also 12th in the 400 dash with her time of 1:02.94.

Butler scored 36 points to finish sixth out of eight teams. Villanova totaled 196 points to earn the team title.



Zane Shreve

Jay County – 2014

Finished eighth in the decathlon for the Miami University men’s track team in the Mid-American Conference Championships held May 10 through Saturday at Buffalo.

He totaled 6,057 points in the final meet of his collegiate career.

Shreve’s best finish came in the 1,500-meter run as he was second in 4 minutes, 44.42 seconds. He was fifth in discus at 31.76 meters.

He was sixth in 400 dash and long jump, tied for sixth in pole vault, was seventh in shot put, ninth in both 110 hurdles and high jump and 10th in 100 dash and javelin.


The RedHawks totaled 111 points to finish fifth out of six scoring teams. Eastern Michigan had 184.5 points to win the team title.



Abigail Scott

Jay County – 2014

Scored for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track team in the National Christian College Athletic Association Championships May 10 and Friday at Grace College.

The senior was eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 12 minutes, 42.77 seconds. Stephanie Croy of Biola won in 11:31.74.

Scott earned one point for the Wildcats, who were fifth overall with 55.5 points, the most of the three Indiana schools competing.

Roberts Wesleyan won the championship with 117 points.



Abbi Dunlavy

Jay County – 2014

Capped her collegiate career for the Fort Wayne women’s track team as it competed in the Summit League Championships May 10 through 12 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The senior was 17th in her only event, the 800 run. She had a time of 2 minutes, 42.65 seconds.

Krista Steele of South Dakota State won the event in 2:09.59.

The Mastodons scored 12 points for seventh place.
