Tirso Ornelas and Nick Margevicius both had stellar games Thursday as the Fort Wayne TinCaps beat the West Michigan Whitecaps 3-0 at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Michigan.
Margevicius went seven strong innings —?the longest outing of the season for a TinCaps starter — and scattered five hits. He allowed only one walk and struck out seven, lowering his walk/strikeout ratio to 7.38, the best in the Midwest League.
The TinCaps scored in the top of the first inning on a Luis Campusano double. The lead was 2-0 after the second inning thanks to a Luis Almanzar RBI double. Ornelas doubled in Jeisson Rosario in the fifth for the final run of the game.
Ornelas went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a triple, an RBI and a run.
Fort Wayne (21-25), which had lost its previous three games, tied a season-high seven extra-base hits. Almanzar tallied two doubles and an RBI.
