FARMLAND — Collin Haines closed out the final regular season match of his high school career on top.
Haines, a Jay County High School senior, shot 39 Tuesday to earn match medalist honors as the Patriot boys golf team finished third in a match with the Daleville Broncos and Shenandoah Raiders at Hickory Hills Golf Club.
Daleville won with a team score of 185. Shenandoah was second with 194 and the Patriots totaled 204 for third.
Complementing Haines were freshman Griffin Mann, who finished second for the Patriots with 53, Auston Rittenhouse, who totaled 55 for third and Devin Harris, who completed the team score with 57.
Joey Hall shot 81, but did not factor into the team total.
Jay County next plays in the sectional tournament Monday back at Hickory Hills.
Another tie
For the second consecutive game, Kiwanis played to a 9-9 tie, this time against the Lions on Wednesday in Willie Mays action of PJL.
Austin Curtis smacked a triple and a double, knocked in four runs and scored twice to lead Kiwanis. Gavin Young collected a double, a single and three RBIs, while Cole Carpenter singled and drove in a run. Sylas Wenk singled and scored twice, and Freddie Lingo and Carter Barton each tallied one run.
Isaac Scott had two singles, a double, a run and an RBI for the Lions. which also got two runs from Austin Jellison and Wes Wenning. Jellison also chipped in a single.
Eli Stockton, Skyler Esparza and Aryon Montes all had one run.
Inman tops Optimist
Inman U-Loc picked up a 5-2 victory over Optimist in Portland Junior League’s Willie Mays division on Wednesday.
Joe Geesaman and Grant Wendel had two singles apiece for Inman. Geesaman contributed three RBIs while Wendel scored twice.
Lucas Strait added a triple and two runs and Nick Laux had a single and scored once.
Keegan Cavanaugh doubled and drove in the only two runs for Optimist. He scored Vasin Ridgway and Dominick Bright. Landon Garringer tallied a single in the loss.
