MARION — The Starfires only have five swimmers.
Each won an event against the Giants.
The South Adams High School girls swim team earned eight total victories on Wednesday to defeat the host Marion Giants, 68-58.
Senior Ashley LeFever had her hand in four of the Starfires’ wins, grabbing individual victories in the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 8.91 seconds) and the 50 freestyle (25.94 seconds).
Isabel Von Gunten took first in the 100 freestyle in 1:06.89, and Claire Burson got a win in the 500 freestyle in 7:08.38.
Michelle Sandoval (200 individual medley) and Hannah Neuenschwander (100 butterfly) were uncontested in their respective races.
LeFever, Burson, Neuenschwander and Von Gunten teamed to win the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
Eagles sweep Indians
DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both knocked off the Union City Indians on Tuesday.
The seventh graders got a 37-32 victory while the eighth grade team won 29-16.
Parker Nichols led the seventh graders with his 15-point effort, and Liam Garringer contributed eight points. Jackson Edwards was third with seven points, while Corey Lenington and Trevin Dunnington scored three and four points respectively.
Kaleb Meadows finished with 11 points in leading the WJMS eighth graders. Tavin Wasson was second with eight points, as Jaydence Brannon and Dominic Newsome had three points apiece. Peyton James and Peyton Bennett added two points each.
Wrestlers fifth
The Jay County elementary wrestling team placed fifth on Sunday in the Elementary Duals on the Border tournament it hosted at Jay County High School.
Jay County went 1-1 in pool competition as it defeated Yorktown 63-18 before a 60-27 setback.
In the consolation bracket, Jay County knocked off Carroll 52-26, and topped Northeastern 44-40 in the fifth-place match.
Wauseon, Ohio, won the 16-team tournament.
Individual results were not provided.
