BLUFFTON — The Patriot girls won every event.

The boys fell a bit short.

Jay County High School’s girls swim team opened the dual meet portion of its season on Tuesday with a 111-74 win over the Bluffton Tigers.

The JCHS boys lost, 112-57.

Ashlyn Dow, Eliza Bader and Vivienne Kunkler each won a pair of individual events. Dow won the 200-meter freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Bader was first in the 200 individual medley and 400 freestyle and Kunkler handled the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Erica Hathaway (100 butterfly), Rieley Brewster (100 backstroke) and Emily Dues (diving) each picked up individual victories.

Jay County also won all three relays.

Chase McFarland was first in the 100 freestyle as the only winner for the Patriot boys.



Wrestlers fall to ’Dogs

CENTERVILLE — Jay County’s wrestling team dropped its season opener on Tuesday, 43-33 to the Centerville Bulldogs.

Dylan Garringer started his high school career by pinning Kaiden Longmire in the first period of their 106-pound match. Zakk Atkins (120), Jordan Schricker (145) and Nathaniel Lykins (182) also registered first-period pins.

Thomas Hemmelgarn picked up a 11-4 decision at 160 pounds, and Mason Winner got a forfeit at 195 pounds.

In junior varsity action, Ian Ruiz (132), Ben Hunter (138), Dakota Lairson (170) and Ramon Bravo (195) all won their respective matches.



Stars rally

BERNE — A fourth-quarter rally helped the South Adams girls basketball team beat the Ansonia Tigers, 47-43.

Trailing 31-29 after three quarters of play, the Starfires (2-3) outscored the Tigers (0-1) 18-12 in the fourth quarter to snap a three-game losing streak.

Emilee Myers and Lydia Loshe led South Adams with 16 and 14 points respectively. Kristen Wynn tallied seven points, while Carlie Sealscott chipped in four points.

Kelsa Ortiz (three), Shaelynn Bowman (two) and Madi Smith (one) each recorded points.

The South Adams junior varsity team also won, 43-18. Macie Hirschy scored 17 points and Makayla Hamrick tallied 10 points.

 

SA tankers split

MONROE — The South Adams swim teams split with Adams Central on Tuesday.

The Starfire girls edged the Flying Jets, 82-77, and the boys fell 104-60.

Ashley LeFever was first in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfly. Isabel Von Gunten also had a pair of wins, placing first in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

Bella Bailey (100 breaststroke) also picked up an individual victory.

South Adams’ girls were also first in all three relays.

Kam Yoder was the lone victor for the SAHS boys. He was first in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly.
