FORT RECOVERY — The Indians started each of the last two years with victories.
They weren’t able to make it three in a row.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team dropped its season opener 42-36 on Thursday to the Crestview Knights at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
A 10-3 deficit after the first quarter turned into a 23-12 hole at halftime for the Indians (0-1). Despite outscoring the Knights over the final two quarters, 24-19, they could not grab the lead.
Junior Val Muhlenkamp had a game-high 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and a 5-for-8 effort from the free-throw line. She also had eight rebounds to lead all players.
Brooke Kahlig had a career-high nine points, and Alli Vaughn chipped in four points. Paige Fortkamp, Olivia Patch and Brenna Homan had two points each.
Stars split with ’Dogs
BERNE — The South Adams boys and girls swim teams split with the Celina Bulldogs on Thursday.
The Starfire boys won 99-63, and the girls fell 84-67.
Parker Collingsworth and Isaac Gorrell each had two wins for the SAHS boys. Collingsworth won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke events, while Gorrell handled the sprint races, the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Kam Yoder was first in the 200 individual medley, and the Starfires also won the 200 freestyle relay.
Ashley LeFever took the top spot in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke events. Bella Bailey (200 IM) and Isabel Von Gunten (100 freestyle) each had individual victories. The Starfire girls won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays as well.
SA grapplers win
BERNE — South Adams’ wrestling team began its season Thursday with a 57-21 win over the Heritage Patriots at Stardome.
Michael Rupp pinned Mason Smith at 120 pounds, while AJ Dull picked up a pin at 138 pounds over Christ Hentzleman. Austin McKibben pinned Jason Clay in their 145-pound bout, and Andre Hughes pinned Clay Riddle at 285.
Kaidon Fluckiger earned a 6-4 decision over Gage Pritchard at 160 pounds.
Logan Bauman (106), Keegan Rich (113), Jake Plattner (182) and Collin Shaffer (195) all received forfeits.
