GASTON — Natalie Miles was on fire.
Sara Hemmelgarn and Alana Kunkler were too.
Together they helped the Patriots outlast the Warriors.
Jay County High School’s volleyball team had three players with 10 or more kills on Thursday as it outlasted the host Wes-Del Warriors 28-26, 23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13.
It’s the fourth consecutive win for the Patriots (17-6).
Miles was successful on more than 35 percent of her attacks as she finished with 14 kills. Hemmelgarn and Kunkler added 10 apiece.
Olivia Kunkler and Alana Kunkler totaled six and five blocks each, while Kailee Denney led the team in both assists (27) and aces (four). Jay County’s junior varsity team fell, 25-22, 25-19. Pacie Denney’s three kills led the team, and her four assists tied Izzy Rodgers for most on the squad.
Phillips nets three
YORKTOWN — Hannah Phillips notched her first career hat trick on Thursday, leading the Jay County girls soccer team to a 5-2 road win over sectional rival Yorktown.
Phillips found the back of the net twice in the first half as Jay County (7-3-1) was out front 3-1 at intermission. Kendra Muhlenkamp scored twice and assisted on one of Phillips’ goals.
Anhley Montes also had an assist.
Goalkeeper Shelby Caldwell was nothing short of busy, as she finished with a dozen saves on the night for the Patriots, who host Blackford on Monday for senior night.
Stars sweep Falcons
BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team bounced back from a loss Tuesday to sweep the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons on Thursday, 25-15, 25-17, 25-13.
Freshman Carlie Sealscott led the Starfires (14-9) with nine kills, while also adding eight digs. Gabriella Bailey was second on the team with seven kills, and Shaelynn Bowman contributed five kills.
The South Adams junior varsity team also won, 25-14, 25-8.
Savannah Alberson finished with four kills, Taylor Braun recorded 10 assists and Jade Baker notched seven digs.
Generals blank SA
FORT WAYNE — South Adams’ girls soccer team had its shutout streak end on Thursday.
So too did its winning streak.
The South Adams girls soccer team fell to the host Wayne Generals on Thursday, 3-0.
It was the first time since Aug. 28, a 4-2 loss to Jay County, that South Adams (7-4-1) allowed a goal.
Jenna Myers made 18 saves in goal for South Adams.
