MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Indians’ quest for a conference championship just got a little more difficult.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team, which is No. 3 in Division III, fell into a tie for second place in the Midwest Athletic Conference standings Thursday with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 loss to the fourth-ranked Marion Local Flyers.
Cassidy Martin led Fort Recovery (14-2, 5-1 MAC) with 10 kills. Brooke Gaerke contributed seven kills while Olivia Patch chipped in six kills. Gaerke’s four blocks were tops on the team.
Madi Rammel finished with 18 assists, and Hannah Knapke had 10 digs and three aces.
The Indians meet Fort Loramie, which was 12th in the most recent Division III poll, on Saturday, play South Adams on Tuesday and host Division III No. 1 St. Henry (17-1, 6-0 MAC) on Thursday.
Stars sweep Jets
BERNE — South Adams’ volleyball team swept county rival Adams Central on Thursday, 25-19, 29-27, 25-15.
Shaelynn Bowman and Carlie Sealscott led the Starfires (16-9, 4-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Lydia Loshe and Gabriella Bailey finished with seven kills each.
Defensively, Hannah Dull tallied 16 digs, Sealscott had 15 and Ayla Rosswurm contributed 11 digs. Bowman’s six blocks led the team.
Josie Grabau set up the offense to the tune of 165 assists.
South Adams’ junior varsity team also won 25-23, 25-12. Savannah Alberson had a team-best eight kills, and Jade Baker finished with five kills.
SA falls to Eastbrook
MARION — The South Adams girls soccer team fell to 8-5-1 Thursday with a 5-1 loss to the host Eastbrook Panthers.
Ali Smith tallied the lone goal for the Starfires, who host Manchester at 10 a.m. Saturday in the final game of the regular season.
Jenna Myers turned away eight shots as goalkeeper.
The Starfires open sectional play at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Blackhawk Christian at Canterbury.
FR gets first win
ROCKFORD, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade football team got its first win of the season Thursday with a 22-12 triumph over the host Parkway Panthers.
Troy Homan, Kale Rammel and Ross Pearson all had touchdowns for the Indians, who snapped a five-game losing streak and move to 1-5 on the year.
Fort Recovery hosts the Anna Rockets at 5 p.m. on Oct. 4.
