PITSBURG, Ohio — It took a few innings for the Indian offense to get rolling.
Once it did, it couldn’t be stopped.
Fort Recovery High School’s baseball team scored 15 runs over the final four innings on Saturday for a 15-5 win over the host Franklin Monroe Jets in six innings.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Fort Recovery (5-2) took the lead for good with a three-run third. The Indians broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning before going ahead 10-1 in the top of the fifth. The Jets responded with four runs in the home half to bring the score to 10-5, but another five-spot in the sixth gave the Indians a comfortable advantage.
Ryne Post led Fort Recovery’s offense with three hits and a pair of RBIs. Kody Shinabery chipped in two singles and two RBIs, while Garrett Faller knocked in two runs as well. Riley Will also doubled.
Cole Grisez picked up the win, allowing one unearned run in 3 1/3 innings. He surrendered one hit, struck out three and walked three.
Tribe drops two
PITSBURG, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday to the host Franklin Monroe Jets.
The Indians (4-4) fell behind early in a 3-1 loss in game one before allowing 14 runs in the fourth inning of a 15-3, five-inning setback in game two.
Eight of the 15 runs were earned in the second game.
Rachel Thien had three singles and an RBI to pace the Tribe offense. Lydia Wenning contributed a double and a single, while Jackie Homan collected two singles. Kim Hart and Brenna Homan also drove in runs.
Indians, Trojans split
ARCANUM, Ohio — The Fort Recovery junior varsity team split a doubleheader with the Arcanum Trojans on Saturday.
The Indians (2-2) nabbed game one 4-3 before a 19-0 defeat in five innings in game two.
Dillan Evers finished with a double and two singles for Fort Recovery. Korbin Dues chipped in three singles, while Marcus Gaerke doubled, singled and knocked in a run. Sam Jones finished with a double and an RBI, Brock Dues had two hits and drove in a run, and Derek Lochtefeld tripled in game two.
Evers recorded the win in game one, allowing three earned runs on four hits in five innings. He struck out seven and walked eight.
Gaerke took the loss in game two.
Two set records
ROCKFORD, Ohio — Natalie Brunswick and Mara Pearson both set school records on Saturday as the Fort Recovery Middle School girls track team placed fourth at the Parkway Invitational
The South Adams girls won with a score of 109 points, and Wayne Trace was second with 101. Wapakoneta totaled 91.5 points for third, 7.5 points ahead of Fort Recovery
Wapakoneta finished with 121.5 points to win the boys’ invitational. Wayne Trace (101) and South Adams (57) were second and third respectively. Fort Recovery was seventh with 41 points.
Brunswick had a time of 5 minutes, 33.79 seconds, as she won the 1,600run in record-breaking fashion. She led a 1-2-3 finish in the race for FRMS as Ellie Will was runner-up and Alexis Wendel placed third.
Pearson’s leap of 15 feet, 3 inches, was first in the long jump and a new school record.
They accounted for the only wins for the FRMS girls.
Brooklyn Bixler of South Adams got wins in both the 100-meter hurdles (17.52 second) and 200 hurdles (32.74 seconds).
