FORT WAYNE — The Starfires put on a hitting clinic Wednesday.
South Adams High School’s softball team racked up 26 total hits, including 12 for more than one base, in a 20-1, five-inning rout of the host Canterbury Cavaliers.
The Starfires (3-1), who finished 14th in the most recent Class 2A Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll, scored five runs in each of the first two innings before scoring four in the third and fourth frames. Another two in the fifth gave SAHS a 20-0 lead before the Cavaliers plated their only run in the home half of the inning.
Emilie Hammell led the Starfire offense with three triples, a single and six RBIs. Taylor Augsburger blasted three doubles and knocked in five runs while Jenna Myers and Anna Nussbaum had two doubles each. Kristen Wynn collected a double, three singles and three RBIs. Jade Baker and Aaliyah Feaster totaled three hits each.
Baker got the win pitching. She allowed one hit and and walked one in three innings of work with six strikeouts. Hammell struck out three and walked a pair in two innings of relief.
SA falls late
BERNE — The South Adams junior varsity softball team came up short in a 7-6 loss in eight innings to Bellmont on Wednesday.
