FORT RECOVERY — A four-run second inning was all the Indians really needed.

But they continued to score for a lopsided win.

Fort Recovery High School’s softball team grabbed a 5-1 lead in the second and cruised from there for a 12-2 dispatching of state-line rival Jay County on Thursday in five innings.

The Indians (6-5) were out front 1-0 in the first inning before the Patriots (0-3) tied the game in the top of the second. The tie game didn’t last long, as Macy Shinabery sacrificed herself to bring home Macy Day for the go-ahead run. Hannah Knapke had an RBI single and Lydia Wenning knocked in a pair on a double.

Wenning finished with three hits, as did Brenna Homan (triple and two singles), Jackie Homan, Day and Knapke. Fort Recovery racked up 17 hits to just four for Jay County.

Aubrie Schwieterman tripled and singled for the Patriots.

Jackie Homan pitched the Tribe to the win, allowing two earned runs with one strikeout. Kailee Denney suffered the loss. She gave up seven runs — four earned — on nine hits.

Middle carries Stars

NEW HAVEN — The second through fourth innings carried the South Adams softball team to a 14-4 win over the New Haven Bulldogs in six innings Thursday.

New Haven led South Adams (4-1) by a 2-1 margin at the end of the first inning before the Starfires grabbed a 3-1 lead one frame later. A five-run third made it 8-3, and three more in the sixth ballooned the advantage to 11-3 before SAHS scored a trio in the sixth for the run-rule win.

Jenna Myers hit a three-run home run and doubled as she finished with five RBIs. Kayla LeFever collected three singles, while Madi Smith notched a double and two singles. Aaliyah Feaster drove in three runs on a double, with Jade Baker and Taylor Augsburger doubling as well.

Anna Nussbaum allowed three runs — two earned — on seven hits with six strikeouts and a walk to get the win in four innings of work.

Stars win short game

NEW HAVEN — A five-run first inning was all the South Adams junior varsity softball team needed in an 8-2, three-inning win over New Haven on Thursday.

Taylor Braun had two singles to lead South Adams, which got singles from Kaelynn Miller, Lilly Patterson, Carlie Sealscott and MaKayla Hamrick.

Vivian O’Dell, Miller and Hamrick all had an RBI.

Sealscott pitched and got the win. She allowed two runs — one earned — on three hits. She also struck out four and walked one.
