After four consecutive losses, the Patriots have now won three in a row.
Jay County High School’s softball team won its third consecutive game on Monday with a 11-1 victory over the St. Henry Redskins.
The Patriots (3-4) scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second to grab a commanding 7-0 lead. The Redskins (2-10) hit the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth inning, but Jay County responded with a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
No other statistics were provided.
Jay JV struggles
Jay County High School’s junior varsity baseball team managed only one hit, committed nine errors and allowed two or more runs in all five innings on Monday in a 20-0 setback to the Bellmont Braves.
The Patriots (3-3) fell behind 4-0 after the first inning and 6-0 at the end of the second. The Braves tacked on four more runs in the top of the third before adding five in each of the next two innings for the one-sided victory.
Juan Pablo Wiggins broke up Bellmont’s bid for a no-hitter with a one-out single in the bottom of the fifth inning. He reached third on a passed ball and a wild pitch, but Jay County hit into a game-ending double play.
Kade Shannon drew a pair of walks for Jay County, which was out-hit 11-1. Drew Powers and Darius Esparza both walked as well.
Powers suffered the loss, allowing six runs — four earned — on three hits with four walks in two innings.
West Jay places third
MONROE — West Jay Middle School’s girls and boys track teams both placed third in a three-team meet at Adams Central on Monday.
Heritage won the girls meet with 72 points, with the host Jets taking second (34) and West Jay (31) finishing third.
Adams Central’s 56 points won the boys meet. Heritage (51) was runner-up with West Jay (29) third.
Gabi Bilbrey earned the only victories for the WJMS girls. She won shot put with a distance of 27 feet, 2.5 inches, and took the discus competition with a distance of 61 feet, 11 inches.
Isaiah Weekley of West Jay won high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches, and Skyler Bee leaped 14 feet, 6 inches, to take first in long jump.
