The Indians managed just enough of them.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team eked out a victory Saturday, knocking off Wapakoneta Redskins 35-32.
The Tribe (2-0) built a 14-7 lead in the opening quarter and was left clinging to a one-point lead — 27-26 — heading into the fourth. Paige Fortkamp scored six of her team’s eight points in the last quarter as FRHS held on for the victory.
Forkamp hit three 3-pointers prior to the fourth quarter as she paced the Indians with 15 points. Kierra Wendel added seven points and Alli Vaughn scored five.
Fort Recovery will seek to extend its season-opening win streak when it plays its Midwest Athletic Conference opener Thursday at Versailles.
Swimmers 2nd
MINSTER — Fort Recovery High School’s girls swim team placed second Saturday in a five-team meet hosted by Minster at Auglaize-Mercer YMCA.
The Indian girls scored 87 points to finish second to New Bremen (136). Versailles was third with 49.
In the boys meet, Fort Recovery scored 18 points to trail Memorial (97), Versailles (93) and Minster (84).
Ava Bubp scored the lone individual win for the Tribe as she took the 100-yard freestyle by nearly two seconds in 59.18 seconds. She was also the runner-up in the 100 backstroke.
Paige Fortkamp, Autumn Burk, Kyra Clark and Bubp won the 200 freestyle relay with their time of 1 minute, 50.21 seconds.
Michael Braun had the top finish for the boys team as he was fourth in the 100 backstroke.
