FORT?RECOVERY — The Indians made key plays late in their season opener last week.
They didn’t have the same opportunity in their Midwest Athletic Conference opener.
Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team gave up 43 first-half points Friday night and was not able to recover in a 66-58 loss to the Versailles Tigers.
FRHS (1-1, 0-1 MAC) was within three points after the first quarter before getting outscored 23-11 in the second. It was the antithesis of what first-year coach emphasized last week — a goal of holding opponents to 10 points or fewer in each quarter.
The Indians struggled to slow down Michael Stammen and Connor VanSkyock, who combined for 41 points to lead Versailles (3-0, 1-0 MAC). Stammen scored 17 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, and VanSkyock buried five 3-pointers for his 20 points.
Fort Recovery, which will host Jay County tonight with the junior varsity game starting at 5 p.m., had three players in double figures. Brian Bihn led the group with 16 points while Regan Martin hit four 3-pointers en route to 15 points and Ryne Post chipped in 11.
