FORT RECOVERY — Their first game against a Hoosier opponent didn’t work out so well.

The Indians made sure to turn things around in their second.

Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team took control in the second quarter and pulled away in the second half Tuesday for a 55-36 victory over the Blackford Bruins.

The Indians (3-2), who lost by five to Jay County on Saturday, were tied with Blackford after the opening period before taking a 26-19 lead into the locker room at halftime and then extending it to double digits in the third quarter.

Kierra Wendel set the pace for Fort Recovery with 18 points. Alli Vaughn joined her in double figures with 12 points.

Eagles split

West Jay Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team lost 65-33 Tuesday to Adams Central while the seventh graders fell 28-25.

Parker Nichols totaled 13 points to lead the eighth grade Eagles. Jackson Edwards followed with eight.

Keegan Wasson’s 11 points were the team-high for the seventh grade squad.
