FORT RECOVERY — Payton Jutte wasn’t able to reach a scoring milestone on the road Friday.
He did it in front of a home crowd, instead.
Jutte, a senior, became the 17th Fort Recovery High School player to score 1,000 points as he led the Tribe boys basketball team to a 58-43 victory on Saturday against Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
After coming up three points short on Friday in a loss to Marion Local, Jutte reached the millennium mark on his first basket of the game, a 3-pointer in the opening quarter. He finished with a game-high 28 points, including four baskets from beyond the arc and a perfect 6-for-6 effort from the free-throw line.
The Indians (9-8) were behind by one, 12-11, heading into the second quarter before a 16-7 margin before halftime gave the home team a 27-19 advantage.
Clay Schmitz was second in scoring for Fort Recovery with eight points, while Gavin Thobe tossed in seven points. Noah Lennartz and Blayne Tobe contributed six points each.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 40-33. Ryne Post led the way with 15 points, and Brian Bihn finished with 11 points.
Stars’ season ends
BLUFFTON — The South Adams girls basketball team had its season come to an end on Saturday with a 56-40 loss to county rival Adams Central in the Class 2A Sectional 36 tournament semifinal at Bluffton.
Adams Central (14-10), which lost to South Adams 40-35 in their regular season meeting Dec. 6, advances to the championship game at 7 p.m. tonight against Bluffton.
The Jets jumped out front of the Starfires (10-13) by a 12-7 margin, and had a 20-13 advantage at halftime. South Adams couldn’t handle Adams Central during the third quarter as the Jets scored 21 points to just a dozen for the Starfires for a 41-25 lead with one quarter to play.
Lydia Loshe scored 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, to lead South Adams. Shaelynn Bowman chipped in 11 points.
Girls win 3rd straight
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team dominated for the first three quarters en route to a 67-19 thrashing of Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks on Saturday afternoon at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
It was the third straight win for the Indians, who move to 9-9 on the season.
Fort Recovery jumped out to a 19-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and had a commanding 34-11 advantage at halftime. But the third quarter proved to be the best for the Indians, as they scored 25 points while holding the Blackhawks off the scoreboard to go on top 59-11.
Val Muhlenkamp led all players with 16 points, and Olivia Patch joined her in double figures with 12 points. Alli Vaughn and Brenna Homan each had eight points, and Hope Wendel added seven points. Paige Fortkamp and Patch grabbed eight rebounds apiece.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won as well, 49-17. Hope Wendel and Audrey Knapke both had 10 points.
Streak hits 11
ROCKFORD, Ohio — The South Adams boys basketball team’s losing streak reached 11 games on Saturday with a 65-47 setback to the host Parkway Panthers.
South Adams (1-15) fell behind 23-10 after the first quarter and clawed their way back to trail 34-24 at halftime. But the Panthers began to pull away in the third quarter as they led 49-36 before putting the game away in the final eight minutes.
Drew Stutzman scored 14 points to lead the Starfires, who also got 11 points and 11 rebounds from Nick Miller and 10 points apiece from Spencer Fear and Trey Schoch.
Caleb Kinney of Parkway had 20 points for the Panthers to lead all players in scoring.
Tribe 7th moves on
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s seventh grade girls basketball team kept its season alive Saturday with a 30-18 win over St. Henry in the first round of the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament.
The eighth grade Indians had their season end with a 24-17 loss to Delphos St. John’s.
Mara Pearson scored 14 points to lead the seventh grade squad. Cali Wendel chipped in 10 points while Saige Leuthold and Teigan Fortkamp had six points each.
Audra Bubp paced the eighth graders with 10 points. Abby Knapke had four points and Elizabeth Alig scored two points.
