OSSIAN — The Jay County middle school girls swim team placed fourth on Tuesday in the Norwell Invitational.
The host Knights totaled 427.5 points for first, and Bluffton was the runner-up with 200 points. South Adams (169.5) and Jay County (164) were third and fourth respectively.
Mara Bader had the only individual wins for Jay County, as she earned the top spot in the 50-yard butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
Morgan DeHoff was third in the 50 and 100 freestyle races, while Abby Johnson had the same finish in the 100 backstroke.
Aubrey Millspaugh also placed in the top nine as she was fifth in the 200 freestyle and ninth in the 400 freestyle.
Also scoring individual points for Jay County were Hannah Laux, Emily Strausburg, Maddy Snow and Kenzie Huey.
The 300 freestyle relay was second, the 200 medley relay placed third and the 200 freestyle relay was sixth.
South Adams results were not provided.
Chiefs win again
The Chiefs were winners once again on Tuesday.
East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team won its fifth straight match and third in the span of two days as it took down Winchester Driver, 81-16.
Bradin Daniels won his 85-pound bout by pin, and Tony Wood (90) did the same to his opponent. AJ Myers (125), Reed Brandenburg (132) and Nate Paxson (140) also got victories by pin in their respective weight classes.
At 75 pounds, Landon Garringer earned a 4-1 decision in overtime.
Cody Rowles (95), Presley Kunkle (102), Cameron Clark (117), Bryce Wenk (160), Conner Specht (175), Adryon Miller (195), Ricky Nava (220) and Tayden McDowell (275) all received forfeits.
In reserve action, Mallory Winner, Zac Brotherton and Garringer picked up wins.
East Jay improved to 6-3 on the season and hosts Delta at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Tribe 8th tops ’Skins
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team topped the St. Henry Redskins on Tuesday, 48-24.
The seventh grade Indians lost, 40-17.
Cale Rammel led the FRMS eighth graders with 20 points, as Wyatt Grover and Ross Pearson contributed six points each.
Troy Homan’s 10 points paced the seventh grade Indians.
WJ drops opener
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s wrestling team opened its season with a 34-12 loss Tuesday to South Adams.
Logan Zimmerman and Landon Weaver accounted for the Eagles’ only two wins. Zimmerman got a pin in 1 minute, 41 seconds in his 132-pound bout.
Weaver needed just 35 seconds to pin his 275-pound opponent.
South Adams results were not provided.
