FORT RECOVERY — The Indians had the fourth-ranked team on the ropes at halftime.

The Tribe wasn’t able to put the game away near the end of regulation. The offense fizzled in overtime.

Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team gave up a 12-point halftime lead and managed only four points during overtime in a 49-43 setback on Saturday to the Division IV No. 4 Tri-Village Patriots at Fort Site Fieldhouse.

The Indians (9-11) had a hot start, jumping out to a 16-5 lead before extending it to 21-9 at intermission. But the Patriots (20-1) struck for 16 points in the third quarter to close the gap to four and had a 14-10 margin in the fourth quarter. They outscored the Indians 10-4 in overtime for their 19th consecutive win.

Olivia Patch led the Indians with 11 points, and Kierra Wendel contributed 10 points. Val Muhlenkamp and Alli Vaughn finished with nine and eight points, respectively.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team lost as well, 31-27. Hope Wendel led the Indians with 12 points.



Tribe boys fall

FORT RECOVERY — A 21-point second quarter gave the Fort Recovery boys basketball team a halftime lead, but it managed just 15 over the final two quarters in a 57-41 loss to the Shawnee Indians on Saturday at Fort Site Fieldhouse.

Fort Recovery (9-10) trailed 16-5 at the end of the first quarter before a scoring flurry, including a trio of 3-pointers, gave it a 26-23 advantage at the break. 

Fort Recovery had only three field goals in the final two quarters, meanwhile Shawnee scored 22 points in the third to grab a lead it didn’t give up.

Payton Jutte and Derek Jutte led FRHS with 10 and nine points respectively. Clay Schmitz tossed in six points and Gavin Tobe finished with five points.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team dominated Shawnee, 52-32. Ryne Post’s 19 points were tops on the team. Ian Homan made five 3-pointers on his way to 17 points, including 11 in the third quarter.



FR girls finish second

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s seventh grade girls basketball team came up short, 46-29, to the New Bremen Cardinals in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament championship it hosted.

Mara Pearson totaled 17 points to lead the team, and Tiegan Fortkamp was second with six points. Jenna Hart tallied five points.



Boys 8th advances

MARIA STEIN and ROCKFORD, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team advanced in the MAC tournament with a 48-24 win over St. Henry on Saturday at Marion Local.

Over in Rockford at Parkway, the FRMS seventh grade team had its season end with a 41-30 loss to Delphos St. John’s.

Cale Rammel led the eighth grade squad with 20 points, as Wyatt Grover and Ross Pearson collected six points apiece. The Indians are slated to meet Coldwater at 6 p.m. tonight at Marion Local.

In the seventh grade contest, Rex Leverette and Troy Homan finished with 10 and six points respectively.
