BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Cassy Martin is headed back to state.

Martin, a Fort Recovery High School senior, qualified for the OHSAA Division II state meet from her performance on Friday at Bowling Green State University.

The top two places in each of the four districts plus the next 16 fastest times earn a berth in the state meet, which is Wednesday through Saturday at C.T. Brannin Natatorium in Canton.

Martin qualified for state in the 50-yard freestyle with her time of 24.53 seconds, which was good enough for ninth place. Napoleon sophomore Kaylee Nagle won the race with her time of 23.53 seconds.

The FRHS senior also broke the school record in the 100 freestyle in 54.27 as she also placed ninth.

Ava Bubp finished 17th in the 200 freestyle (2 minutes, 4.36 seconds) and 23rd in the 500 freestyle (5:51.43), and Autumn Burk was 30th in the 100 butterfly.

Bubp, Burk and Martin teamed with Shelby Stammen to place 14th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:47.21, then joined Rachel Acheson to take 19th in the 200 freestyle relay with their time of 1:48.05.

In the boys’ competition, Owen Sheridan touched the wall in 59.73 for 24th in the 100 butterfly.

Slide continues

PARKER CITY — The losing slide continued for the South Adams boys basketball team on Saturday as it lost to the host Monroe Central Golden Bears, 69-40.

It was the 15th consecutive loss for the Starfires (1-19).

South Adams needed two quarters to match what Monroe Central (9-10) scored in the first. The Golden Bears were ahead 13-4 after eight minutes of play and went into the locker room with a 30-13 advantage.

MCHS continued to pull away in the third quarter as it outscored South Adams 46-21 in the period. The fourth saw both teams put up plenty of points, but the damage was already done.

Spencer Fear and Trey Schoch both scored 10 points apiece to lead SAHS. Nick Miller and Drew Stutzman scored seven and six points respectively, while Tim Davidson had a team-best six rebounds.

Jackson Ullom of Monroe Central led all players with 26 points, including four 3-pointers and a 10-for-10 effort from the free-throw line.
