WINCHESTER — The Starfires are back in the win column.
It came 69 days after the last one.
The South Adams High School boys basketball team erased a first-quarter deficit and turned it into a 67-60 triumph over the host Winchester Golden Falcons on Tuesday at Winchester Fieldhouse.
It was the first win in more than two months for the Starfires (2-19), who had lost 15 consecutive games and last won 54-34 on Dec. 12 against Smith Academy.
Winchester (10-11) was ahead 15-11 after the first quarter but South Adams grabbed the lead thanks to a 14-8 margin in the second as it went into halftime leading 25-23.
The Golden Falcons got within one, 42-41, entering the fourth quarter but the Starfires were able to put the game away in the final seven minutes.
Sophomore forward Nick Miller had a career night, going 10-of-16 from the field. He also made seven of his 12 free throws to finish with 27 points, three more than his previous best set Jan. 26 in a loss to Canterbury.
Miller also had a game-high 12 rebounds, marking the fourth time in the last seven games he’s reached double digits in boards. It was also his fifth double-double this season.
In addition to Miller, freshman Trey Schoch had a career night. The guard scored a career-high 19 points — the fifth time in six games he’s scored 10 or more points — 14 points above his season average. He also had three assists and two rebounds.
Spencer Fear chipped in nine points and Drew Stutzman collected eight points for the Starfires.
Eagles clipped
GASTON — The wrestling Eagles of West Jay Middle School got clipped on Tuesday with a 48-9 loss to the Wes-Del Warriors.
Logan Orso, a 110-pounder, won his match with a 6-5 decision, and Reese Gross got a pin in 1 minute, 25 seconds, for a victory at 125 pounds.
The Eagles (1-4) take on East Jay and host Woodlan on Thursday in Woodburn.
