OSSIAN — The Chiefs as a team went 1-3, but four individuals were undefeated.

East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team competed in the Norwell Super Duals on Saturday and finished 1-3.

The Chiefs lost to Delta (57-37) and DeKalb (42-36) before getting in the win column with a 44-42 victory over host Norwell. The Chiefs ended the meet with a 43-42 setback to Carroll.

Cameron Clark was 4-0 competing in both the 117- and 125-pound weight class, and AJ Myers was also an unblemished 4-0 over the 125 and 132 weight classes.

Nate Paxson (140) was also 4-0, while Mallory Winner (117) won both of her matches.

Tony Wood (90), Jay Goodrich (3-1) and Tristan Stout (3-1) were all 3-1.

Going 2-2 for the Chiefs were Landon Blowers, Conner Specht and Adryon Miller.



Chiefs topple Patriots

The East Jay seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams both toppled the Heritage Patriots on Thursday.

The eighth graders got a 34-18 win while the seventh graders dominated, 36-6.

Renna Schwieterman scored 20 points for the EJMS eighth graders, who moved to 12-1 on the year. Lydia Keihn, Kylie Carreno and Eden Abshire chipped in four points each.

Bralee VanSkyock scored 10 points to pace the seventh grade Chiefs (11-1). Breanna Dirksen collected eight points, Bella Denton finished with six points and Sophie Saxman tossed in four points.



EJ boys split

MONROEVILLE — The seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams at East Jay traveled to Heritage on Thursday and returned with a victory and a defeat.

The EJMS eighth graders won 58-50, and the seventh graders lost 37-27.

Bennett Weitzel scored 19 points as the eighth graders moved to 12-1 (6-0 Allen County Athletic Conference). Josh Dowlen and Carter Link contributed seven points. Owen Ransom tallied six points.

Sam Myers’ 10 points was tops for the seventh grade Chiefs (7-6, 3-3 ACAC). Zach McAbee totaled eight points, Abraham Dirksen finished with four points and Timo Minnich ended with three points.



Eagle 7th tops SA

BERNE — West Jay’s seventh grade boys basketball team knocked off host South Adams on Thursday, 26-16.

The Eagle eighth graders also won, 33-24.

Parker Nichols scored 12 points for the WJMS seventh graders, who also got five points from Liam Garringer, four from Ryan Cross and three points from Jackson Edwards.

Conner Fear, Owen Wanner and Isaac Dee each had four points for the Starfires.

Skyler Bee tallied 10 points for the WJMS eighth graders. Gabe Goodspeed was second with eight points while Peyton James and Tavin Wasson chipped in four points apiece.

Kyle Minger led the Starfire eighth graders with eight points, Brady Beall chipped in six points and Josh Amtzutz ended with four points.



WJMS loses two

DUNKIRK — West Jay’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams both lost to South Adams on Thursday.

The Eagle eighth graders fell 34-12, and the seventh graders lost 47-5.

Gabi Bilbrey notched five points to lead the WJMS eighth graders. Grace Shimp was second with four points as Abbie Fields and Paige Mumbower had three points apiece.

Jozey Shimp led the seventh grade Eagles with three points, and Molly Hines had the other two points.

South Adams stats were not provided.
