Youngsters strong in swim team's opener
MUNCIE — The youngest members got the spotlight.
The 8-and-younger girls grabbed the top three spots in every individual event and the top two in both relays Tuesday, guiding the Jay County Summer Swim Team to a season-opening victory against Catalina Swim Club, 754-445.
Altogether, Jay County won 42 of the 60 individual events and 16 of the 20 relays.
Maria Laux, one of the 8-and-younger girls, led the way with three victories, winning in the butterfly, backstroke and individual medley races.
Rockland and Raif Beiswanger (9-10-year-old boys), Mara Bader (13-14-year-old girls), Josh Monroe (13-14-year-old boys) and Eliza Bader (15-and-older) all won three events apiece as well.
Earning two wins each were Lila Wendall (8-and-younger), Morgan DeHoff (11-12-year-old), Creed Beiswanger (11-12-year-old) and Chase McFarland (15-and-older).
Girls grabbing one individual win were Kali Wendall (8-and-younger), Catie Grile (9-10-year-old), Lani Muhlenkamp (9-10-year-old), Kaitlyn Fisher (9-10-year-old), Aubrie Millspaugh (9-10-year-old), Maddy Snow (9-10-year-old), Emma LeMaster (11-12-year-old), Kenzie Huey (13-14-year-old), Hannah Laux (13-14-year-old) and Erica Hathaway (15-and-older).
Boys who got a single victory were Tony Beiswanger (8-and-younger), Murphy Link (8-and-younger), Ben Fisher (8-and-younger), Lincoln Clamme (11-12-year-old), Matthew Fisher (11-12-year-old) and Kyle Sanders (15-and-older).
