FORT WAYNE — A bit of heroics capped the first half for the TinCaps.
Tucupita Marcano singled in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday, lifting the Fort Wayne TinCaps to a 4-3 victory against the Lake County Captains at Parkview Field in the final game of the Midwest League’s first half.
As the TinCaps improved to 33-35, it was the 227th career win for manager Anthony Contreras, tying him for most wins by a manager in Fort Wayne history.
Lake County (40-29), an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, roared back to tie the score with three runs in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI triple, an error and a sacrifice fly.
With bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Marcano slashed a single to left field to bring home Luis Roman for the walk-off win.
Agustin?Ruiz hit a three-run home run in the TinCaps’ first inning, and later added a single as he, Marcano and Roman had two hits each.
Gabe Mosser had another strong outing on the bump for Fort Wayne. He threw four scoreless innings, struck out six, allowed just two hits and walked one. In 12 starts this season, the 23-year-old righty had struckout 71 compared to just eight walks.
