DELPHOS, Ohio — The Tribe offense got off to a hot start on Saturday.
It carried over into the second game as well.
Fort Recovery High School’s softball team had almost as many runs (24) as it did hits (25) in a doubleheader sweep of the host Jefferson Wildcats in the season opener for both teams.
The Indians (2-0) won the first game 15-1 in six innings and followed with a 9-1 victory in game two.
Fort Recovery jumped on Jefferson for three runs in the first inning of the season, and tacked on five more in the fifth. A seven-run sixth frame gave the Indians the lopsided win.
In game two, the Tribe scored twice in the second inning, added four runs in the third and two more in the fourth as it staked a commanding advantage en route to the sweep.
Lydia Wenning, who had one home run all of last season, had one in each game on her way to a five-hit, five RBI day. Jackie Homan made her career debut and finished with four hits, including a double, and five RBIs. Chloey Grisez also had four hits and Aleigha Jenkins contributed three hits.
Homan got both wins pitching, as she tossed 12 total innings, including a complete-game effort in the second game. She allowed one earned run on six hits, struck out 15 and didn’t issue a walk.
