COLDWATER, Ohio — The Indians slipped two spots from last season.
Minster continued its dominance.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls cross country team placed sixth Saturday in the Midwest Athletic Conference championships.
Minster, which has won each of the last three Division III state championships, scored 21 points to claim the team MAC title for the seventh straight season. St. John’s (100) was the runner-up and Coldwater (120) was third. The Indians, who were fourth last season, totaled 132 for sixth.
Fort Recovery’s boys totaled 184 for eighth. Minster won its third straight title with 37 points. Versailles (71) and Parkway (85) were second and third, respectively.
Megan Diller was the lead FRHS girl as she was 17th in 21:04. Hanna Metzger ended 22nd, three spots ahead of Alexis Wendel. Alyssa Heinrichs finished 36th and Caitlin Weitzel was 42nd.
Drew Muhenkamp finished seventh as the top Tribe boy. He had a time of 17:32. Jared Timmerman and Connor Gower were 51st and 52nd, respectively. John Knapke (67th) and Jayden McEldowney (78th) also contributed to the team total.
Patriots 1-3
LIBERTY — Jay County’s volleyball team went 1-3 Saturday in the Union County Invitational.
After a 25-16, 25-16 win against Seton Catholic, the Patriots (16-10) lost to Shenandoah (25-14, 25-15), Adams Central (25-20, 25-22) and Lawrenceburg (25-10, 25-23).
Natalie Miles collected 18 kills and 12 digs in the tournament. Sara Hemmelgarn added 14 kills and Alana Kunkler posted 12 kills.
Hallie Fields had a team-best 21 digs and five aces, and Madison Dirksen finished with 11 digs. Pacie Denney recorded 29 assists, and Izzy Rodgers racked up 21 assists.
The Patriots open sectional play against No. 6 Muncie Burris at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bellmont.
EJ 8th takes second
East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team was second in the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament Saturday at JCHS.
The Chiefs defeated West Jay, Southern Wells and Heritage in pool play before a loss to Adams Central in the championship match.
East Jay’s seventh graders went 1-3, with a win against Southern Wells and losses to West Jay, Heritage and Bluffton.
Eighth grader Sophie Saxman had team highs in service points (22), aces (16) and kills (14). Bella Denton added 21 points, and Brenna Haines had 19 points to go with her 17 digs. Riah Champ chipped in 12 kills. The Chiefs ended the season 16-6.
Cassie Petro and Jordyn Hutzler had 10 and seven kills, respectively, for the seventh graders (7-14), and Addison Denney was third with six kills. Meredith Dirksen finished with nine aces and 16 assists.
