A junior and a sophomore are among the best in the area.
Paige Fortkamp and Whitley Rammel of the Fort Recovery High School volleyball team were named first team all-conference, the Midwest Athletic Conference announced this morning.
Fortkamp, a junior, was third in the conference with 242 kills, behind Lauren Gilliland (373) of Coldwater and Lindsey Winner (255) of Versailles.
Rammel, a sophomore, ranked second in blocks (86) and 10th in kills (193).
Junior Kierra Wendel was named to the second team, and she was sixth overall with 311 digs. Her 43 aces ranked ninth.
Fort Recovery (17-5, 6-3 MAC), which was sixth in the final Division IV coaches poll, also had seniors Paige Jutte and Brooke Kahlig earn honorable mention.
Top-ranked St. Henry and No. 2 New Bremen shared the MAC title with 8-1 records in the league. St. Henry coach Tricia Rosenbeck and New Bremen’s Diana Kramer were co-coaches of the year, while Gilliland was conference player of the year.

Trey Nichols and Joseph Kunk both had defensive touchdowns Monday as the Jay County High School junior varsity football team defeated the Lapel Bulldogs, 22-0.
The Patriots snapped their six-game losing streak to start the season.
Nichols recovered a fumble he forced and returned it for a 65-yard touchdown, and Kunk had a 10-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Kaiden Ridenour had 115 rushing yards, a TD and a 2-point conversion.
