MINSTER, Ohio — Two matches into conference play, the Indians are among the three teams at the top.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team knocked off the Minster Wildcats on Thursday, 25-12, 25-14, 23-25, 25-20.
The win moved the Indians to 9-1 on the season and 2-0 in Midwest Athletic Conference play, and are tied with New Bremen and Coldwater for first place in the league. The Wildcats dip to 7-3 (1-1 MAC).
Paige Fortkamp paced Fort Recovery offensively with 14 kills, while also adding five blocks and three digs. Paige Jutte and Olivia Patch were second with seven kills each, and Marissa Gaerke followed with six kills.
Hope Wendel and Chloe Showalter chipped in 19 and 15 assists, respectively, and Kierra Wendel tallied 12 digs. Whitley Rammel’s seven blocks were a team high.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 25-16, 25-23. Grace Guggenbiller and Lilie Leuthold led the team with six kills apiece.
FR boys fall
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team suffered a 177-190 loss to the St. Henry Redskins on Thursday at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Grant Knapke led the Indians with his round of 46, which included par on both the eighth and ninth holes. Cole Muhlenkamp started his round with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole, and had two pars as he shot 47. Derek Lochtefeld had two pars as well on his way to a 48, and Carson Rammel made one par and finished with a score of 49.
Russell Gehle (54) and Zavier Kunkler (55) also competed but did not factor into the team score.
Bruns leads in loss
Jalyn Bruns was three strokes off her school record as the Fort Recovery girls golf team fell to the St. Henry Redskins 168-201 Thursday at Portland Golf Club.
Bruns shot 39, nearing the school record she set Aug. 22.
Shelby Stammen was second for the Tribe with her round of 50. Alli Vaughn was third with 54. Paige Bihn and Macy Brunswick shot matching scores of 58 to complete the team total.
Kendra Dues also competed and shot 59.
MS spikers win
UNION CITY — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams earned wins against West Side on Thursday.
The Eighth graders got a 25-11, 25-8 victory, and the seventh graders got a 25-3, 25-8 triumph.
Allison Knapke had 11 aces for the eighth grade team. Chloe Bubp and Saige Leuthold tallied four aces each. Autumn Jutte and Liz Hartings had two kills apiece.
Kennedy Muhlenkamp led the seventh graders with nine aces, as Kayla Heitkamp and Emma Will had six each. Ella Schoen and Heitkamp both recorded two kills.
