PORTLAND and BERNE — Even in a virtual setting, Jay County showed its dominance.
The Jay County Summer Swim Team didn’t lose a race in claiming an abbreviated Wabash Valley Conference championship, which only included Jay County and South Adams instead of the typical five teams.
Each team partook in the meet by swimming in its own pool. South Adams, however, did not compete in the relay races because of COVID-19 restrictions.
A dozen Jay County swimmers got three wins apiece. Kenna Arnold and Finn Hemmelgarn each got three victories in the 8-and-younger age division, while Brooklyn Byrum and Raif Beiswanger were triple winners in the 9-and-10-year-old age group.
Lauren and Matthew Fisher each had three wins in the 11-and-12-year-old division while Morgan DeHoff and Joseph Dow were first three times in the 13-and-14-year-old group.
The 15-and-older age group had four grab three individual wins: Ashlyn Dow, Eliza Bader, Griffin Mann and Kyle Sanders.
Grabbing two wins apiece were Jordan Champ (8-and-younger), Karsen Kuhn (8-and-younger), Elly Byrum (9-and-10-year-old), Sam Wiggins (9-and-10-year-old), Maddy Snow (11-and-12-year-old), Aryan Montes (11-12-year-old) and Timo Minnich (13-and-14-year-old).
Single winners were Addisyn Champ, Murphy Link, Kali Wendel, Rockland Beiswanger, Sophia Hoevel, Jacob Monroe, Aubrey Millspaugh, Kenzie Huey, Zion Beiswanger, Creed Beiswanger, Mara Bader and Konner Sommers.
