Leading by four heading into the final match of the night, a win hinged on one of the team’s newcomers.

Heskett pinned Zack King 23 seconds into the second period of their 138-pound match Tuesday, securing a 43-33 victory over the Celina Bulldogs for the Jay County High School wrestling team.
The win moved the Patriots, who are ranked seventh in Class 2A by IndianaMat, to 15-1 on the season.
Five of Jay County’s seven other wins came by way of pin. At 106, Cody Rowles needed just 29 seconds to pin Matthew Smith. Taye Curtis (113) also got a first-period pin.
Nate Paxson (160) and Ramon Bravo (195) both earned a pin in the second period. Ethan Reiley, who is ranked sixth at 113 pounds, pinned Brycen Miracle with 17 seconds remaining in their 126-pound match.
Ian Ruiz earned an 18-5 major decision over Kyler Bowlby in their 145-pound match, and Bryce Wenk topped Tyler Carlin 6-2 at 182 pounds.
Girls win third
Jay County’s girls swim team won for the third straight meet Tuesday as the Patriot swim teams split with the Delta Eagles.
Eight event wins carried the JCHS girls (3-1) to a 153-109 win over the Eagles, and the boys were shut out in a 208-95 loss.
Lilli Clemmons and Ashlyn Dow were each dual winners for the Patriot girls. Clemmons won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races, while Dow was first in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
Lauren Brewster earned first place in diving, and Emily Dues beat the field in the 100 backstroke.
The girls also won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
Griffin Mann paced the JCHS boys, taking second in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Nick Lyons was runner-up in the 100 backstroke.
Tribe swimmers fall
BLUFFTON — The Fort Recovery boys and girls swim teams both fell to the Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday.
The girls lost 94-91, and the boys fell 129-37.
Ava Bubp won both the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle for the FRHS girls. Autumn Burk (100 butterfly), Paige Fortkamp (50 freestyle) and Audra Bubp (100 breaststroke) also got individual wins.
Fort Recovery’s girls also won all three relays.
Michael Braun and Isaac Knapke had the only wins for the FRHS boys. Braun won the 100 backstroke and Knapke the 100 breaststroke.
