The girls got another win. The boys came up short.

Jay County High School’s swim teams split with the Adams Central Jets on Monday in their final meet before the holiday break.

The Patriot girls ran their record to 4-1 with a 170-106 win, and the boys dipped to 1-4 with a 151-120 loss.

Ashlyn Dow and Lilli Clemmons were both dual winners for the JCHS girls. Dow had a time of 2 minutes, 22.56 seconds, to win the 200 individual medley, then won the 100 freestyle in 1:00.22. Clemmons was victorious in the 50 freestyle (27.86 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:12.71).

Zion Beiswanger also picked up an individual win, claiming the top spot in the 500 freestyle with her time of 6:44.9.

Clemmons, Dow and Beiswanger teamed with Kearsten Myers for a victory in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:58.23, and they joined Emily Dues for a time of 4:36.24 and a 400 freestyle relay win.

Kyle Sanders (100 butterfly – 1:05.03), Juan Pablo Wiggins (500 freestyle – 6:18.45), Griffin Mann (100 breaststroke –1:12.24) and Justice Murphy (diving – 154.7 points) won their respective events. Nick Lyons, Josh Monroe, Sanders and Mann won the 200 medley relay in 1:55.28.



Streak gets snapped

FORT WAYNE — Jay County’s girls basketball team had its seven game wining streak come to an end Saturday with a 57-41 loss to the South Side Archers.

The Patriots (8-2), who host defending Allen County Athletic Conference champion Woodlan tonight, trailed by just two points at the end of the first and second quarters. However, a 15-7 advantage by the Archers (7-1), who finished 15th in Monday’s Class 4A poll, pushed the score to 43-33, and they continued to pull away in the final period.

Renna Schwieterman led Jay County in scoring with a game-best 21 points, and Madison Dirksen followed with 11 points to go with her team-high eight rebounds.



Draw is set

The Allen County Athletic Conference boys and girls tournament bracket is set.

According to a tweet from OutsideTheHuddle.net, Jay County’s boys and girls basketball teams have received a bye to the semifinal round of the tournament, which is slated for Jan. 12 through 16.

Opening-round games pit Heritage at Adams Central and South Adams at Southern Wells on Jan. 12. Winners advance to the semifinal on Jan. 15.

Woodlan travels to Bluffton, with the winner advancing to the semifinal against Jay County.

The championship games will be Jan. 16 at South Adams.
