FORT WAYNE — Jay County senior Rachel Louck had her short diving career end Tuesday in the IHSAA diving regional at Fort Wayne South Side.

The Patriot, who earned the fourth and final qualifying spot from Saturday’s sectional, scored 171.8 points to place 19th out of 20 divers. She was 25.4 points ahead of Burris’ Emma Leedy.

Carmel’s Alaina Heyde won the regional championship with 490.4 points. Hamilton Southeastern’s Sarah Ballard, who was 11th in the state last year, was runner-up with 480.15 points. 



Girls take second



OSSIAN — The Jay County middle school girls swim team finished second in the Norwell Invitational on Tuesday.

The host Knights won with 428 points, leaving Jay County (270) a distant second. Adams Central scored 155 for third out of eight teams.

Morgan DeHoff was Jay County’s only individual winner as she was first in the 100-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 5.47 seconds. In addition to being runner-up in the 50 freestyle, DeHoff joined Aubrey Millspaugh, Zion Beiswanger and Lauren Fisher to win the 300 freestyle relay.

Kenzie Huey (100 backstroke) and Millspaugh (200 freestyle, 400 freestyle) were third in their respective individual events. Huey was also seventh in the 100 freestyle.

Also scoring points for Jay County were Maddy Snow, Hannah Laux, Kenzie Clayton, Rihanna Hartman, Sophia Hoevel, Aery Wentz, Maisey Keller, Maggie Dillon, FIsher and Beiswanger.



Chiefs top Driver



WINCHESTER — Seven forfeits and four pins helped the East Jay Middle School wrestling team beat Driver on Tuesday, 66-27.

Landon Garringer (80 pounds), Cody Rowles (102), Cameron Clark (140) and Bryce Wenk (175) all pinned their opponents.

Sylas Wenk (75), Tony Wood (110), Landon Blowers (117), AJ Myers (150), Conner Specht (195), Ricky Nava (220) and Jaylen McClain (275) received forfeits.

Griffin Byrum won by a 3-0 decision at 85 pounds.

In junior varsity matches, Tyler Ellsworth and Gage Sims both won by pin.



WJ 6th splits



DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball teams split games Tuesday against Blackford-Montpelier. 

The A team lost 31-27 while the B team picked up an 11-9 victory.

Carter Fugiett scored 13 points to pace the Eagle A team. Camden Fraley added seven points, and Malachi Hernandez finished with five.

Dakota Clem and Kamdyn Carter had six and five points, respectively, for the B team.



Eagles fall



BERNE — West Jay’s wrestling team suffered a 24-18 defeat to host South Adams on Tuesday.

Logan Orso needed 14 seconds to get a pin at 125 pounds, and Caleb Weesner (95) pinned his opponent in 20 seconds. Brayden Witt (150) got a pin in 1:02.
