BERNE — The Indians followed seven straight wins with a three-game losing streak.
That skid is now over.
Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team got off to a slow start during its trip across the state line Friday night, but bounced back to pick up a 49-46 victory over the host South Adams Starfires.
The Indians (15-6), who had dropped consecutive contests to Shawnee, New Bremen and Fort Loramie, gave up 18 points in the opening quarter to fall behind by eight. But, they closed back to within one of South Adams (9-10) at halftime.
FRHS then fought off the Starfires in the second half, with Derek Jutte and Grant Knapke leading the way in the third quarter and Clay Schmitz coming up big in the fourth.
After scoring two points in each of the first two quarters and none in the third, Schmitz had six of his 10 in the fourth. Four of those came at the foul line.
Jutte, who tallied a game-high 16 points, had half of them in the third quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers. Knapke hit three 3-pointers, including a pair in the third quarter, en route to his 11 points.
