There will be no professional baseball in Fort Wayne this year.
Minor League Baseball on Tuesday announced that there will not be a 2020 season. That includes the elimination of the Fort Wayne TinCaps’ schedule.
“We were hopeful and optimistic that the TinCaps would be able to play games at Parkview Field this season, but that won’t be the case,” said TinCaps’ president Mike Nutter said in a press release.
The TinCaps are one of 160 Minor League teams that had their season canceled. The decision came in the wake of Major League Baseball’s plan to play a 60-game season with expanded rosters beginning in late July.
This will mark the first year without Minor League Baseball in Fort Wayne since 1993. With the season canceled, there are plans to announce new events for Parkview Field and to continue to work on making visits to the facility safe in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
“While this is a major setback, we just have to look ahead to what re-opening Parkview Field will look like,” said Nutter.
Those who had purchased individual tickets for the 2020 season will be able to exchange them for tickets in 2021.
