Spikers fall to Heritage

MONROEVILLE — In a battle of Patriots, the team at home, and the one with a higher ranking, came out on top.

Jay County High School’s volleyball team fell to the host Heritage Patriots on Thursday, 25-22, 25-13, 25-12.

Jay County dips to 7-13 (1-5 Allen County Athletic Conference), while Heritage, which is ranked third in the most recent IndianaPrepVolleyball.com and IHSVCA Class 3A polls, moved to 22-3 and clinched the conference title by going 6-0 against ACAC foes.

Madison Dirksen led Jay County with seven kills, and Alana Kunkler was second with three kills. Grace Brewster had a team-best 13 digs as Natalie Miles and Kunkler chipped in seven apiece.

Pacie Denney tallied seven assists and Izzy Rodgers recorded six assists.

Jay County’s junior varsity team lost 25-24, 23-25, 15-6.

Lauren Brewster led the way with 10 kills, and Bella Denton finished with five kills. Madyson Fraley collected 12 digs.



Bader leads in win

Two days after her younger sister scored the lone goal in a win, Jay County senior Eliza Bader scored twice in leading the Patriot girls soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Muncie Central on Thursday.

Bader’s two tallies marked the first multi-goal game of her career. The second of the night and seventh of the season came on a penalty kick in the second half as Jay County moved to 8-7-1 and are at .500 or above for the first time since Sept. 1.

Gabi Bilbrey scored her team-leading ninth goal of the year.

Tricia Ison made just one save in recording her second consecutive shutout, her fourth of the year.



Jay boys fall

ANDERSON — A second-half goal proved to be the only offense as the Jay County boys soccer team fell to Liberty Christian on Thursday, 1-0.

Ian Ruiz made seven saves as goalkeeper for Jay County, which falls to 5-7 on the season.
