LEWISTOWN, Ohio — Two Indians finished in the top 10.

Three were in the top 15. All five who scored were 17th or better.

The effort gave them the title.

Ellie Will was second overall in leading Fort Recovery High School to the team championship of the Jean Newmeyer Invitational on Saturday at Indian Lake.

The Tribe finished with 52 points, just three ahead of Mariemont. New Bremen was third with its score of 72.

Mariemont won the boys race by scoring 35 points. Shawnee was runner-up with 54 points, and Benjamin Logan scored 85 for third. Fort Recovery finished seventh out of nine times with 196 points.

Will crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 30 seconds, as the top FRHS runner. Megan Diller (20:49) was sixth, and Brynn Stammen (21:19) was 11th. Jenna Hart (21:39) and Hanna Metzger (21:47) were 16th and 17th, respectively.

Trevor Heitkamp was the lead Tribe boy in 11th with his time of 17:48. Connor Gower ended 35th in 19:40, and Luke Keller was 44th in 20:01. Ethan Evers (20:12) placed 50th and Caleb Rammel (21:24) ended 70th.

Also running for the FRHS girls were Anna Wendel (21st), Alexis Wendel (24th), Caitlin Weitzel (31st), Alyssa Heinrichs (36th), Sarah Siefring (42nd), Kendra Metzger (47th), Olivia Laux (81st) and Britney Klenke (93rd). For the boys were Jac Barga (88th) and Christian Marchal (93rd).



Tribe wins two

FORT RECOVERY and CONVOY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s volleyball team earned a pair of wins recently.

The Division IV No. 5 Indians (15-2) took down 10th-ranked St. Henry 24-26, 25-21, 25-18, 18-25, 15-10 on Saturday at Fort Site Fieldhouse, then toppled the host Crestview Knights 25-14, 25-15, 19-25, 26-24 Monday.

Paige Fortkamp posted 19 kills in both matches and had 10 digs against St. Henry. Kierra Wendel notched 17 digs Saturday and followed up with 12 digs on Monday. Whitley Rammel collected a total of 32 kills, including 17 against St. Henry.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team defeated St. Henry 25-23, 25-13, and knocked off Crestview 25-11, 25-21.

Grace Klingshirn notched 12 kills against Crestview, while Mara Pearson had a team-high seven kills in the win over St. Henry.
