FORT RECOVERY — The Indians entered Thursday tied for second place in the conference with the Flyers.
They ended the day with sole possession of that spot.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team, which is ranked fourth in Division IV, got a 25-21, 16-25, 25-13, 25-19 victory over the Minster Wildcats at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
The win moves the Indians to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in Midwest Athletic Conference play. Defending state champion and top-ranked New Bremen (19-1, 7-0 MAC) topped the sixth-ranked Marion Local Flyers (15-3, 5-2 MAC) in five sets to remain tied with No. 2 New Knoxville (15-0, 7-0 MAC) for first place in the conference.
Whitley Rammel led the team with 18 kills and Paige Fortkamp was second with 16 kills. Kierra Wendel’s 11 digs were tops on the team, and Hope Wendel recorded 25 assists. Marissa Gaerke chipped in five aces.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won 25-4, 25-6. Paige Guggenbiller led the team with seven kills and assisted on five blocks. Grace Klingshirn totaled three kills and two aces.
FR 8th ties
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s eighth grade football team played to a 12-12 tie against the Marion Local Flyers.
The seventh graders lost, 18-6.
Caden Grisez and Ethan Hartnagel each had touchdowns for the eighth graders, who are now 1-4-1.
Colson Post scored the only touchdown for the seventh grade squad, which dipped to 3-2-1 on the year
