COLDWATER, Ohio — Ellie Will took fifth place overall.
The team was the runner-up.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls cross country team placed second in the Coldwater Lions Invitational on Saturday.
Minster, which has won the last four Division III state championships, scored 25 points to win the invite title. The Indians totaled 125 points, four ahead of third-place St. Henry.
Shawnee edged Van Wert 61-62 for the boys title, while Minster (83) was third. Fort Recovery scored 386 points for 14th out of 19 scoring teams.
Will had a time of 20 minutes, 4.51 seconds, for fifth overall. Megan Diller (20:55.84) ended 21st, while Brynn Stammen (21:07.31) was 27th. Jenna Hart had a time of 21:34.17 for 34th, and Anna Wendel ended in 21:40.7) for 38th.
Trevor Heitkamp had a time of 18:00.91 for 27th as the top FRHS boy. Connor Gower was 79th in 19:49.54, and Luke Keller was two spots behind in 19:52.16.
Ethan Evers (20:32.36) placed 95th, and Caleb Rammel (21:24.26) finished 109th.
Also running for the FRHS girls were Hanna Metzger (45th) and Caitlin Weitzel (59th), while Jac Barga (125th) and Christian Marchal (128th) ran for the boys.
Tribe falls in four
FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team fell to the Fort Loramie Redskins on Saturday, 25-27, 25-21, 25-12, 26-24.
It marked just the third loss of the season for the Indians (16-3), who received the top seed for its district tournament on Sunday and finished sixth in the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association poll Monday. Fort Loramie (17-3), meanwhile, moved up to No. 4 in the state.
Paige Fortkamp’s 16 kills paced the Indian offense, while Marissa Gaerke and Whitley Rammel had 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Fortkamp’s three aces were also tops on the team.
Kierra Wendel contributed 17 digs, and Faith Wendel recorded 18 assists. Faith Wendel and Aubrey Knapke had three aces apiece.
Jay fifth
LIBERTY — Jay County’s volleyball team finished fifth Saturday at the Union County Invitational, its final tournament of the regular season.
The Patriots (9-16) lost to Union County (25-23, 25-21) and East Central (25-19, 22-25, 15-9) in pool play before defeating Seton Catholic (15-25, 25-13, 25-11) in their crossover game.
Alana Kunkler led the team with 26 kills on the tourney, and she was followed by Madison Dirksen’s 19 kills. Abbie Fields was third with seven kills. Grace Brewster recorded a team-best 36 digs, and Brenna Haines contributed 14 digs. Lyric Garringer racked up 17 service points.
Pacie Denney totaled 34 assists and only missed one of her 29 serves.
Jay County opens Class 3A sectional play at 6 p.m. Thursday against Norwell at Delta.
Patriots fall in fourth
LAPEL — A fourth-quarter touchdown proved the difference for the Jay County junior varsity football team in an 8-0 loss to the Lapel Bulldogs on Monday.
Jay County (2-6) and Lapel played scoreless for three quarters until the Bulldogs scored the game’s only touchdown in the final frame.
Parker Nichols completed four of his seven pass attempts for 62 yards, and also led the team with 14 yards rushing.
Trey Nichols had two catches for 27 yards, and Justin DeHoff had a 24-yard reception.
Peyton Bennett recovered a fumble on defense.
Jay County’s final game will be 10 a.m. Saturday against Blackford.
