BERNE — The quest for No. 6 is officially over.
Jay County High School’s girls soccer team had its hope for a sixth consecutive Allen County Athletic Conference championship end on Tuesday with a 3-1 loss to the host South Adams Starfires.
It marks the third straight loss for the Patriots (3-3, 1-2 ACAC), who will not be crowned champs for the first time since 2014.
South Adams (3-4, 1-0 ACAC), which snapped a three-game losing streak of its own, scored three times in the first half to build its lead.
Jay County ended the shutout hopes on an Eliza Bader goal, which Gabi Bilbrey assisted on.
JCHS goalkeeper Tricia Ison turned away 14 Starfire shots.
Tribe girls first
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls golf team took first Tuesday in a three-way match with the Celina Bulldogs and Parkway Panthers at Celina Lynx Golf Course.
Fort Recovery shot 193, beating Celina by seven strokes. Parkway totaled 270.
Jalyn Bruns earned match medalist honors yet again, shooting 41 to lead the Indians. It was the sixth time this season she’s had the low score.
Shelby Stammen scored 46 for second, while Alli Vaughn shot 51 for third. Trisha Gaerke and Paige Bihn both tied at 55 to complete the Tribe’s team score.
Kendra Dues also competed, but her 58 did not factor into the team total.
Jay JV falls
Jay County’s junior varsity football team lost to Huntington North on Monday, 44-6.
The Patriots (0-2) fell behind 16-0 after the first quarter and trailed 30-6 at halftime. The Vikings added eight points in the third quarter and six points in the fourth.
Cameron Gage caused a fumble in the second quarter and Qadon Ferrell picked up the loose ball and scampered 40 yards for the JCHS score.
Jay County’s next game is Tuesday at Southern Wells.
8th wins, 7th falls
Jay County Junior High’s seventh and eighth grade football teams split with the Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday.
The eighth graders won 46-0, while the seventh graders fell 30-6.
Vasin Ridgeway carried six times for 105 yards to lead the eighth graders, and AJ Myers added 75 yards on six carries. Ben Crouch picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown. Carter Barton and Ridgeway also had interceptions.
In the seventh grade game, Jay County’s only score came on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Gradin Swoveland to Cole Forthofer.
Spikers win
Jay County’s eighth grade volleyball team knocked off the Muncie Northside Titans on Tuesday, 25-11, 25-11.
The seventh graders also won, 25-11, 25-21.
Kiley Williams and Jaelynn Lykins had two kills each in helping the Patriots move to 3-0 on the year. Jozey Shimp turned around eight aces and Meredith Dirksen contributed six aces. Morgan DeHoff had a pair of assists.
Mya Kunkler recorded three kills for Jay County’s seventh graders, and Kayla Jetmore tallied 10 aces on 19 serves.
