MONROEVILLE — In a battle of Patriots, the first half went without any goals.
The visitors broke the scoreless tie in the final 40 minutes.
Jay County High School’s girls soccer team scored three times in the second half for a 3-0 victory against Allen County Athletic Conference rival Heritage on Thursday.
The win moves JCHS to 1-1 (1-0 ACAC) on the season.
Mara Bader, a junior who had one goal in the team’s season opener on Monday, found the back of the net twice for Jay County. She now has a team-leading three goals.
Gabi Bilbrey tallied her second mark of the season.
Morgan DeHoff recorded two assists — the first two points of her career. Senior goalkeeper Tricia Ison turned away four shots for her first shutout of the year and the fifth of her career.
Jay County and Heritage played to a scoreless tie in the junior varsity contest. Grace Shimp tallied five saves.
Tribe tops Panthers
Fort Recovery’s girls golf team moved to 2-0 in Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 191-227 victory against the Parkway Panthers on Thursday at Portland Golf Club.
Senior Jalyn Bruns shot a 1-over-par 36 to lead the Indians. She birdied the first two holes, a par 4 and par 3, respectively. She then bogeyed three consecutive holes to be 1-over with four to go. A birdie on the par-4 seventh hole put her even with two holes to go, and she bogeyed the par-4 ninth.
Macy Brunswick shot a career-low 49 for the team’s second-best score, and Paige Bihn hit 51. Kim Hart shot 55 to complete the Tribe’s total.
Shelby Acheson (57) and Marissa Schoen (61) also competed but did not factor into the overall team score.
Tennis loses to Knights
Jay County’s boys tennis team ran into a tough Norwell Knight squad and suffered a 5-0 loss on Thursday.
The Patriots are now 1-3 on the year.
Crosby Heniser dropped his No. 1 singles match to Ethan Ottinger, 6-3, 6-0, and at No. 2 singles Abraham Dirksen lost to Grant Mishler 6-1, 6-2. Simon Dirksen, the Patriots’ No. 3 singles player, fell to Jayden Payne 6-2, 6-0.
Brothers Gavin and Sam Myers suffered a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 1 doubles to Kellen Zimmer and Winston Frauhiger. Isaac Miller and Austin Dirksen dropped their No. 2 doubles match 6-1, 6-1, to Kaden Graft and Brason Chaney.
LeFevre medals
CELINA, Ohio — Isaac LeFevre earned match medalist but his effort wasn’t enough as the Fort Recovery boys golf team lost to the Parkway Panthers 184-200 on Thursday at Celina Lynx golf Club.
LeFevre shot a career-best 42 to lead the Indians, who also got a 51 from Zander Kunkler. Gavin Faller (53) and Cole Muhlenkamp (54) completed the team score for Fort Recovery.
Alex Dues and Reece Evers both shot 59, but they did not factor into the team score.
Girls fall
The Jay County girls golf team dropped a match against the Muncie Central Bearcats, 214-232, on Thursday at Portland Golf Club.
Janae Jacobs and Maddy Snow each shot career-low scores in the loss. Jacobs led the way with a 51, including one par. Snow, who recorded her first career birdie on the par-5 sixth hole, ended with 52.
Rosealynne Smith shot 59, and Marah Fares made her varsity debut and ended with 70.
