CELINA, Ohio — Three Tribe girls finished in the top 10.
The squad was just a few points away from a title.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls cross country team opened its season by taking second in the Mercer County Meet hosted by the St. Henry Redskins on Tuesday at Wright State University – Lake Campus.
St. Henry totaled 45 points for the title, five points ahead of Fort Recovery. Parkway scored 59 points for third out of five teams.
Parkway’s boys won with 38 points, with Marion Local five points behind in second. Celina scored 80 points for third, and Fort Recovery was fifth out of six squads with 126 points.
Freshman Anna Roessner was the top Tribe girl, placing fifth overall with her time of 23 minutes, 0.72 seconds. Ellie Will and Jenna Hart were seventh and eighth, respectively. Megan Diller placed 14th, and Caitlin Weitzel was 16th to complete the team total.
Sophomore Trevor Heitkamp paced the Fort Recovery boys with his runner-up finish in 18:34.28. Ethan Evers placed 27th, and Evan Evers was three spots behind him. Caleb Rammel ended 33rd, and Christian Marchal placed 53rd.
Also running for the FRHS girls were Alexis Wendel (24th), Alyssa Heinrichs (25th), Joelle Kaup (27th), Nicole Braun (43rd) and Saidy DeRoo (51st). For the boys were Aiden Heitkamp (57th) and Caden Marchal (63rd).
Junior high
Fort Recovery swept the individual championships as the Indian girls placed third and the boys were fourth.
St. Henry scored 30 points to win the girls’ championship. Coldwater was second with 43, and the Indians finished with 47 points.
Parkway totaled 53 points to win the boys’ title. Celina (58) was second and Marion Local (60) placed third. The Indians had 76 points.
Makenna Huelskamp set the pace for the race by winning in 12 minutes, 37 seconds. Maddy Heitkamp ended 10th, Megan Weitzel and Aubrie Heitkamp were back-to-back in 13th and 14th, respectively, and Kylia Dues placed 19th.
For the boys, Parker Brunswick’s time of 11:49 gave him the championship. Reese Diller joined him in the top 10 by placing eighth. Trevor Bergman placed 19th, Russel Hart finished 21st and Matthew Marchal rounded out the team score by crossing the line 27th.
