Jalyn Bruns was oh so close to shooting under par.
Her toughest hole of the day was her last.
Bruns had to settle for a double bogey on her last hole and finished with a 1-over-par 36 in leading the Fort Recovery High School girls golf team to a Midwest Athletic Conference win against the Marion Local Flyers on Thursday at Portland Golf Club.
The Indians (5-2, 3-0 MAC) topped the Flyers, 187-194.
Bruns converted par on her first three holes before making bogey on the par-4 fourth hole. After consecutive pars, Bruns birdied each of the next two holes — the par-4 seventh and the par-3 eighth. Sitting at 1-under with one hole to go, she settled for double bogey to end her round.
Paige Bihn had the second-best score for the Indians with her round of 47, which included making par on the 119-yard eighth hole. Shelby Acheson was two strokes behind Bihn, and she had one par on the 401-yard, par-5 sixth hole.
Macy Brunswick completed the team score with her score of 55.
Kim Hart and Alaina Will each shot 69, but they did not factor into the team score.
Boys fall to Flyers
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team dropped a match to the Marion Local Flyers, 184-201, on Thursday at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Isaac LeFevre shot 42, an identical score to Cole Brunswick of Marion Local as they shared medalist honors.
Cole Muhlenkamp shot 50 as the Tribe’s No. 2 score. Eli Lennartz was third for the Indians with a 53. Gavin Faller and Carson Siefring each shot 56 to complete the Tribe’s team total.
Zander Kunkler posted a 59, but he did not factor into the overall score.
The Indians dipped to 2-5 (1-3 MAC) on the season.
JH Tribe split
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery junior high football teams split with the New Bremen Cardinals on Thursday at Barrebrugge Athletic Park.
The seventh grade team lost 16-6, while the eighth graders picked up a 30-6 victory.
Ethan Wenning scored the lone touchdown for the seventh grade team in its loss.
Reece Wendel ran rampant for the eighth graders as he scored three TDs. Alex Gaerke also reached the end zone, while Brodie Hart had a pair of 2-point conversions. The Tribe defense also recorded a safety in the win.
