FORT RECOVERY — The second win came with a pair of lightning delays.
Fort Recovery High School’s football team cruised to a 28-9 victory Friday night over the Urbana Hillclimbers in a game that had a delayed start and a break in the action in the second half, both because of lightning.
The Indians (2-0) got TD runs from Riley Hiser and Cale Rammel in the second quarter and never trailed. Urbana (0-2) closed the gap with a field goal as the first half expired and a Rayvon Rogan 5-yard scoring run on its first drive of the second half, but the Indians responded with 1-yard scoring runs by Ethan Hartnagel and Rammel to put the game away.
Hiser’s 114 yards on 18 carries led FRHS, and Hartnagel added 77 yards on 17 runs. Rammel was 8-of-14 passing for 80 yards.
Tribe narrowly wins
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls golf team edged St. Henry on Monday, 213-217, at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Tribe senior Jalyn Bruns was the match medalist with her round of 41.
Paige Bihn was the team’s second-best golfer with 53, and Macy Brunswick shot 59. Shelby Acheson shot 60 to complete the team score.
Eva Kahlig (71) and Ella Westgerdes (72) also competed but they did not factor into the team total.
FR falls to Redskins
Fort Recovery’s boys golf team lost to the St. Henry Redskins on Monday, 159-192, at Portland Golf Club.
Isaac LeFevre led the Indians with his round of 42. and Zander Kunkler shot 48. Eli Lennartz totaled 49, and Alex Dues carded 53 to complete the team score.
JV Indians fifth
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity boys golf team placed fifth as hosts of the Midwest Athletic Conference Invitational on Saturday at Portland Golf Club.
Minster won the title, scoring 186 in the nine-hole event. Coldwater was the runner-up with 189 and St. Henry totaled 205 for third.
The Indians totaled 213 for fifth out of seven scoring teams.
Drew Backs and Keegan Muhlenkamp led the Indians with matching scores of 52, and Reece Evers was one stroke behind with 53.
Brennan Dues shot 56 to complete the Tribe’s team score.
