MUNCIE — The Patriots’ streak carried on. They earned some hardware in the process.
Jay County High School’s boys tennis team won both of its matches Saturday to claim the title at the Muncie Central Invitational.
It marked the third straight season the Patriots (6-4) have won the Muncie Central Invitational, and they pushed their winning streak to five with a 5-0 triumph against Blackford Bruins and a 4-1 victory against the host Muncie Central Bearcats.
Crosby Heniser won both of his matches at No. 1 singles, including a two-hour, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 marathon against Muncie Central.
Abraham Dirksen was also 2-0 at No. 2 singles, including a default against Blackford. Simon Dirksen was 1-1 at No. 2 singles.
Brothers Gavin Myers and Sam Myers were both 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. Austin Dirksen and Isaac Miller teamed for a No. 2 doubles win against Blackford, then Gage Sims and Luke Muhlenkamp got a No. 2 doubles victory against the Bearcats.
Girls down Warriors
The Jay County girls soccer team treated its seniors to a 2-0 victory against the Woodlan Warriors on Saturday for senior day.
The Patriots’ third straight win propelled the squad to a 3-1 (2-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) record, and put JCHS one win away from being conference champions again.
Freshman Morgan DeHoff scored both goals for the Patriots in tallying the first multi-goal game of her career. Angel Clairday assisted on DeHoff’s first-half goal, while Mara Bader helped on the mark in the second half.
Senior Tricia Ison recorded nine saves for her second shutout of the season.
In junior varsity action, Jay County and Woodlan played to a scoreless tie. Grace Shimp had six saves for JCHS.
Boggs, Sibray first
DECATUR — Joseph Boggs and Alexis Sibray both won their respective races for the Jay County Junior High cross country team on Monday in a race with Bellmont.
Jay County’s boys totaled 32 points for second behind Bellmont’s 26 points. The Patriot girls did not have enough for a team score.
Boggs had a time of 11 minutes, 42 minutes, for the win. Raif Beiswanger took third, Beckett Brandenburg was sixth and Dougie Cox placed 10th. Max Klopfenstein was 12th to round out the team total.
Sibray won with her time of 13:42. Emily Young placed third, one spot ahead of Paityn Wendel. Kaitlyn Fisher finished sixth.
