MONROE — Renna Schwieterman got her groove back.
Schwieterman, a Jay County High School junior, scored 24 points in leading the Patriot girls basketball team as it cruised past the Adams Central Jets, 76-34.
Jay County, which finished 14th in the most recent Class 3A coaches poll, pushed its winning streak to five games in improving to 8-2 (2-0 Allen County Athletic Conference). Adams Central, meanwhile, dips to 4-6 (1-1 ACAC).
Schwieterman, who had 22 points combined in her previous two games, was on fire early, exploding for 12 points in the first quarter as the Patriots hurried out to a 25-10 lead after eight minutes. Five more Schwieterman points in the second quarter pushed the JCHS advantage to 46-21 at halftime.
With the effort, Schwieterman moved into fifth on the program’s all-time scoring list with 954 points. She is 15 away from surpassing Michelle Warwick for fourth.
Izzy Rodgers made four 3-pointers on her way to 16 points while also tallying five assists. Madison Dirksen matched Rodgers in points to give the Patriots three players with 16 or more.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also won, 46-22. Danielle May led the Patriots with 11 points. Meredith Dirksen and Molly Muhlenkamp followed with nine and eight points, respectively.
Tankers split
VAN WERT, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s swim team split a double dual with Van Wert and Marion Local on Thursday.
The girls beat Van Wert 63-20, and topped marion Local 64-24, while the boys fell to Van Wert 44-20 and suffered a 36-24 defeat to Marion Local.
Audra Bubp was first in both the 400-meter freestyle and 100 breaststroke events. Allison Knapke (200 freestyle) and Teigen Fortkamp (200 IM) also had individual wins for the girls.
Joelle Kaup, Paige Guggenbiller, Bubp and Fortkamp teamed to win the 200 medley relay. Melissa Laux, Fortkamp, Kaup and Bubp were victorious in the 200 freestyle relay, and the 400 freestyle relay took first on the efforts of Nevaeh Lennartz, Allison Knapke, Guggenbiller and Laux).
Isaac Knapke (100 breaststroke) had the lone win for the FRHS boys.
