MUNCIE — Two quarters in, the Patriots were on their way to ending a bit of a losing skid.

But the Eagles took the lead in the third and held off the visitors.

Jay County High School’s boys basketball team lost a five-point lead at halftime and had yet another rally fall short in a 37-35 loss to the Delta Eagles on Saturday. It was the fourth straight loss for the Patriots (5-8) and fifth in the last six games. Delta, meanwhile, improved to 12-4.

The Patriots, who host Norwell on Friday and Seton Catholic on Saturday, limited the Eagles to just a pair of field goals in the first quarter and led 12-4. Jay County got outscored 12-9 in the second but still led 21-16 at halftime.

However, the Patriots managed just six points in the third quarter as the Eagles poured in 14 for a 30-27 advantage with eight minutes to play.

Dusty Pearson, who had six points in the first quarter, led JCHS with 14 points, and Gavin Muhlenkamp contributed 10 points. Ethan Dirksen was third with five points.

Delta’s Brady Hunt led all players with 15 points.

Jay County’s junior varsity team had its seven-game winning streak end with a 46-31 loss. Gavin Myers led the Patriots with nine points, and Blake Bogenschutz added seven points.
