FORT WAYNE — The rain washed away a Saturday doubleheader.
Based on the results, the Rockets should have hoped for another rainout Sunday.
The Portland Rockets scored their only run of the day in the top of the first inning and then went scoreless for 11 in a row as they dropped a doubleheader to the Fort Wayne Jackers on Sunday at Carrington Field.
The Rockets, who have now lost three in a row and dip to 6-17 on the season, fell 8-1 after seven innings in the first game then lost the five-inning second game by an 8-0 margin.
Kasey Henderson started the afternoon with an infield single and reached third base on an error and a groundout. With two gone in the inning, Max Moser singled to score Henderson as the Rockets’ only run of the day.
The Jackers tied the game in the home half of the inning, then broke open the game with a four-run second. They added one run in the third frame and two in the fourth all the while keeping the Rockets off the scoreboard.
Jake Van Pelt, a Delta product, led Portland with two singles. Chandler Locke doubled, while Jared Holley and Caleb Richardson had hits as well.
Peyton Smith suffered the loss in game one, allowing six runs — three earned — on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out three.
Fort Wayne grabbed the only runs it really needed in game two with a run in the home half of the first inning. They tacked on seven more in the fifth inning on a home run, seven singles and one walk.
Satchal Wilson, Moser and Van Pelt had the only hits for Portland.
Tyler Reynolds shouldered the loss. He surrendered six earned runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked a pair.
Portland returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday against the Fort Wayne Blues at Carrington Field, before hosting the Blues at 1 p.m. Sunday for the final home game of the regular season.
