PORTLAND and FORT WAYNE — The Rockets ended a losing streak Friday.
They dropped two more games Sunday.
The Portland Rockets topped the Fort Wayne Jackers 6-3 Friday night at Runkle-Miller Field before losing a doubleheader — 2-0 and 3-0 — to the Fort Wayne Blues on Sunday at Carrington Field.
Portland (2-7) scored six runs in the third inning Friday against the Jackers to take a 6-2 lead it never relinquished. Keith Shepherd knocked in two runs on a single, while Peyton Smith notched an RBI on a double. Cole Miller had a single and drove in a run, and Jake Van Pelt also had an RBI.
Jared Holley and Zeth Tanner registered hits as well.
Kasey Henderson tossed a complete game, allowing three earned runs on nine hits. He struck out 15 and walked three on 149 pitches.
In the first game Sunday, Portland managed just two hits and gave up a run in each of the third and fifth innings. Griffin Garwood and Max Moser both singled for the Rockets.
Smith suffered the loss, surrendering two runs — one earned — on six hits in five innings. He recorded six strikeouts.
In the second game, Noah Collins hit a double for Portland, which also got singles from Holley and Van Pelt.
Tyler Reynolds took his third loss of the season. He gave up one unearned run on just one hit in five innings while striking out five and walking one.
