FORT RECOVERY — Mara Pearson was a county champion last week.
She’s a conference champ this week.
Pearson, a Fort Recovery High School freshman, claimed the long jump title on the first day of the Midwest Athletic Conference track and field championships the Indians hosted Tuesday.
The freshman had a leap of 16 feet, 11.75 inches, for so far the Tribe’s only title out of six events completed. She was victorious by 14.5 inches.
Whitley Rammel was the runner-up in both high jump and shot put while placing sixth in discus.
Kierra Wendel, Ellie Will, Ava Bubp and Natalie Brunswick were runners-up in the 4x400-meter relay.
For the boys, Gavin Thobe was sixth in long jump and eighth in high jump. Cole Muhlenkamp, Drew Langenkamp, Luke Keller and Trevor Heitkamp teamed to place sixth in the 4x800 relay.
The meet is set to resume at 4:30 p.m. Friday with running finals.
Evers shines
ST. MARYS, Ohio — Dillan Evers gave up two unearned runs on three hits in leading the Fort Recovery baseball team to a 4-2 victory over the St. Marys Memorial Roughriders on Tuesday.
Evers and Fort Recovery (7-15) trailed 2-1 after the second inning, but took a 3-2 lead in the third before adding another run in the fourth.
Despite three walks, Evers was efficient by throwing 61 of his 95 pitches for strikes. He fanned four Roughriders.
Offensively, Daniel Patch led the Tribe with two hits and two RBIs, while Cobe Wendel and Landon Post each had two hits.
