FINDLAY, Ohio — It wasn’t the best round of her career. Jalyn Bruns had to wait to see if perhaps it would be her most memorable.
It took more than 90 minutes for her to further make program history.
Bruns, a Fort Recovery High School senior who is the record-holder for 18- and nine-hole scores, qualified for the OHSAA Division II state tournament by placing sixth during the Northwest District tournament Monday at Sycamore Springs Golf Club.
The senior, who was one of the first groups off the first tee, shot 82. She becomes the first Fort Recovery girls golfer to qualify for the state finals.
Lima Central Catholic won the meet with its round of 343, four strokes ahead of runner-up Van Buren. Coldwater was third with 373, and Colonel Crawford shot 387 for fourth.
The top four teams and top four individuals not on advancing teams earn berths at the state meet, which is set for Oct. 15 and 16 at Ohio State University’s Gray Course.
Bruns made par five times on the front nine and took a pair of double bogeys as she made the turn at 6-over-par 42. She had one birdie — the par-5 16th — and converted par four times over the final nine holes.
But then the waiting game began. As 18 of the 89 players turned in their scores, Bruns was sitting fourth overall. As 17 more came in, it dropped Bruns two spots to sixth overall, and that’s where she remained as the rest of the field finished their rounds.
Nicole Jones of Shelby was the individual champion and earned the first individual qualifying spot with her round of 2-over-par 74. Kenzie Schroeder of Hicksville was runner-up at 76 to also qualify for state.
Ayersville’s Autumn Osborne shot 81 for the third individual qualifying spot.
